Agios Nikolaos

The town of Agios Nikolaos has taken its name from the Byzantine church devoted to Saint Nicholas. 
The town lies 68 km from the capital of Crete, Heraklion. 37 km from Ierapetra and 72 km from Sitia.

The Lake

The lake of Agios Nikolaos creates a romantic atmosphere day and night and adds to the magic of the town. A myth was created years back that the lake is bottomless but the truth is that it is impressive depth counts to 64 meters.

Museums

The Archeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos is the second place of importance in Crete as far as size and findings is concerned. Constitutes one of the town’s adornments and it originated back in 1969 and houses findings from the New Stone Age until the end of the roman times.
