The town of Aghios Nikolaos has taken its name from the Byzantine church devoted to Saint Nicholas. The town lies 68 km from the capital of Crete, Heraklion. 37 km from Ierapetra and 72 km from Sitia.
THE LAKE
The lake of Aghios Nikolaos creates a romantic atmosphere day and night and adds to the magic of the town. A myth was created years back that the lake is bottomless but the truth is that it is impressive depth counts to 64 meters.
MUSEUMS
The Archeological Museum of Aghios Nikolaos is the second place of importance in Crete as far as size and findings is concerned. Constitutes one of the town’s adornments and it originated back in 1969 and houses findings from the New Stone Age until the end of the roman times.

The city of Aghios Nikolaos has numerous restaurants by the lake and around the coast where you can enjoy the Greek and Cretan specialties as well as international cuisine.
